Commencement of a project for Training in Organic Agriculture in Prachin Buri Province

The opening Ceremony for the project "Training in Organic Agriculture plan in Prachin Buri Province" was conducted by the Development Activities of Citizens Forum, Prachin Buri Province, on 15th July 2009 at the Amphoe Office of Bansearn District in the Province. Mr. Yuji KUMAMARU, Minister of the Embassy of Japan to the Kingdom of Thailand, took part in the ceremony.

This project aims to help local people acquire knowledge of environmental protection and to earn more stable incomes through organic agricultures methods.

The opening ceremony was attended by Senator Surajit Chirawate, Dr. Surachai Sisarakham, Deputy Governor of Prachin Buri Province, Mr. Tawatchai Muangthong, Chief of Bansarn District, other local guests, and participants in the project.

Mr. Yuji KUMAMARU said that the Government of Japan respected the desire of the Thai Government to promote organic agriculture activities, and expressed his hope for successful activities by the participants. He added that project would be expanded to neighboring areas to ensure more stable income for the people of Prachin Buri Province.

Senator Surajit Chirawate started that he had evaluated this project as an effective way of ensuring sustainability because local residents are to be the principal players in the project.

The Government of Japan is willing to consider providing further support to projects that contribute to social and economic development at grassroots level trough the GGP scheme.
