Relief Money in Response to the Earthquake Centered in the Kumamoto Region of Kumamoto Prefecture 2016

The Embassy of Japan in Thailand has been accepting donations for the victims of the Earthquake Centered in the Kumamoto Region of Kumamoto Prefecture since 22 April.

In this regard, we would like to announce that relief money for the Japanese Red Cress Society will be accepted only until 30th June 2016 at The Embassy of Japan.

Please be noted that the acceptance of aid money from abroad for Japanese Red Cross Society also was closed on 15th June.

The Japanese Government's Account will continuously accept the donation, and transferring donation directly to Local Governments of the Affected Area Account (Kumamoto Prefecture and Oita Prefecture) is still possible.

In the case of donating money at the Embassy of Japan, please contact to the security guard at the gate, then the Embassy staff will receive your donation directly.

After relief money is received by the Embassy of Japan in Thailand and sent to the account of the Government of Japan or to the Japanese Red Cross Society, the money will be delivered to the affected people through local governments.

1. Embassy of Japan’s Account

Those who wish to donate money for the earthquake victims are invited to 1. transfer from their Thai local bank or 2. make a direct deposit at Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation, Bangkok Branch (please bring along your ID card or passport if you deposit foreign notes or a check).

If you choose 1. to transfer from your Thai local bank, please tell the bank officer to send by “Bahtnet Fund Transfer” which requires payment of 150Baht as a transfer fee when you send from inside Bangkok. If you transfer from outside Bangkok, the fee will increase depending on the amount.

(1) Embassy of Japan’s Account (For the Japanese Red Cross Society) (Acceptance until 30 June)

*Donations for the Japanese Red Cross Society though the Embassy’s account will be distributed to the earthquake victims in Kumamoto as relief money and not allotted for the activities of the Society as aid money.

(2) Embassy of Japan’s Account (For the Japanese Government)

*Donations for the Japanese government though the Embassy’s account will also be distributed to the earthquake victims in Kumamoto, but the way and details of how to distribute the funds will be decided later.

Local governments of the affected area have also opened accounts to accept donations.
