Congratulatory Message by H.E. Mr. NASHIDA Kazuya, Ambassador of Japan to Thailand, on the occasion of His Majesty the Emperor’s Birthday
2023/2/23

I would like to extend my warmest congratulations to celebrate His Majesty the Emperor Naruhito’s 63rd birthday on this 23rd February.
His Majesty expressed his sincere gratitude of resuming activities for the first time in three years since the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic. Upon receiving a warm welcome by his people across Japan, His Majesty expressed his wishes that the new year will be one in which people around the world can walk with hope.
Indeed, Year 2003 has kicked off with a memorable start for our Imperial Family. On 2nd January, the Imperial Palace held its first New Year event open to the general public in three years. His Majesty’s daughter, Her Imperial Highness Princess Aiko, made her first official public appearance for the New Year event. June 2023 also marks the 30th wedding anniversary of Their Majesties the Emperor Naruhito and Empress Masako.
Japan and Thailand already resumed a very active exchange last year, marking the 135th anniversary of our bilateral relationship. Our two countries have built a firm foundation for the relationship, based on the strong ties between our respective imperial and royal families, our dynamic trade and investment flows, and the various social, cultural and educational exchanges held constantly between our communities. Furthermore, this year marks the 50th Anniversary of ASEAN-Japan Friendship and Cooperation, leading Japan to host a special summit in December 2023 in order to commemorate this event. I sincerely hope that Japan and Thailand together will overcome the pandemic, and work together to take our relationship to the next level.
To date, we have a very large Japanese community, totaling about 100,000 residents in Thailand, and a very large base of over 6,000 Japanese corporations, which are actively contributing to the economic and social development of Thailand through the export of quality products and creation of new job opportunities and human resource capacities. Travel restrictions between the two countries have finally been lifted almost completely. I have observed that many of my Thai friends have had the opportunity to visit Japan, informing me about their fond experiences there. On the other hand, many people from Japan from the private and public sectors, including Prime Minister KISHIDA Fumio himself, have increased their visits to Thailand since last year.
I would like to reiterate my sincere gratitude to the Government of Thailand for their support in enabling our community and stakeholders to actively engage in their respective economic and social activities in this country.
Finally, let me offer my heartfelt prayers and wishes for the continued good health of His Majesty and the prosperity of our two countries and the Imperial Court of Japan and the Thai Royal Family, leading to a further enhancement of our bilateral relationship.
